B.U.I.L.D. Alliance: Believers United in Living Dreams
An Odd Beginning
When I was in the third grade, an elderly lady named Ms. Milligan (you can already tell that this was a traumatic event because who remembers a substitute teacher from 3rd grade?) filled in for my regular teacher. Ms. Milligan said she was an artist so she gave my class a lot of paper and paint and told us to draw or paint something and she would come around and check our artwork. I painted a clown. And in my 8-year-old brain, my clown was a masterpiece! Well, Ms. Milligan came to my desk and told me that I had done a great job. She left me for a moment but she came back with a big pink plastic hair roller and a bowl of bright blue paint. She dipped the roller in the paint and then proceeded to put blue circles all over my clown. I still remember the confusion and impotent anger that I felt over having my work ruined by someone who moments before had told me that she liked what I had created… Now why am I telling you this? I really don’t know, except that it is one of my earliest memories of really enjoying creating a piece of art—even though my beautiful clown was ruined when Ms. Milligan paint bombed my work.
A Little About Me
My name is Maria. I love God, Yeshua, my family, my art. I thank God for these. I love how God has opened my heart with love for people and how this love has begun to motivate me to share my love for creativity and to seek to fellowship with my fellow artisans and craftspeople. My heart’s desire is to use what God has given me to glorify Him and to encourage others to do the same. The creative process is such a personal experience. But since I became a Christian, my creativity has taken on an intimacy with God that I never knew could happen. I can feel Him when I create. I can see new designs when I pray. I get so excited when He gives me inspiration during prayer or when I am reading the Bible.
The Mission and Purpose of B.U.I.L.D. Alliance
I would love to share this journey with other Christian creatives. I look forward to watching us grow together as members of the body of Yeshua as we encourage and support each other along each of our spiritual and creative paths. That’s what B.U.I.L.D. Alliance is about: Believers United In Living Dreams. Believers sharing their creative efforts, their resources for building a lifestyle around their work, developing a respect for other artisans and craftspeople and the variety of expressions that God reveals through us.
Let’s stop living below our God given potential. It’s time to set fear aside and embrace the creative spirit that dwells within us. We must allow God to use our gifts and to work through us so that the plans that He has for us are manifested. Then we can be free to release the joy and love and worship that can be experienced when we allow the Spirit of The Creator to reign fully in our lives.
This blog is just the beginning of the building of B.U.I.L.D. Alliance. So stay around. Connect. Share. Grow. Build. The first verse that God gave to me when I started journaling about B.U.I.L.D. Alliance is Psalm 127:1: “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” I am so excited to see what God is going to build through us and for us and through B.U.I.L.D. Alliance.
If you desire to develop your artistic/creative abilities and if you want to gain greater understanding of your gifts and how those gifts have been given to you for a reason, then B.U.I.L.D. Alliance is the place for you. Believe that God has great plans for you and that your gifts have been given to you for a purpose. When Believers unite in the name of Jesus, there He will be also. And when He shows up, miracles happen.
Tying the End to the Beginning—Ta-Daaaa!
Now, how do I tie up the loose end of my story about Ms. Milligan and my ruined clown? I think that that episode—which obviously had an impact since I still remember it decades later—while a seemingly random event was actually a building block in my life as an artist. I promise to never paint bomb any of your work in word or deed. And I ask for the same respect and consideration for my work and the work of our fellow artists and craftspeople. How’s that for a tie-in?!?!
My name is Maria.
